Craig's primary area of research is the history of the legal profession in the nineteenth century, with a particular focus on the history of the bar and the public image of the barrister in popular culture. His research has included an examination of how the barrister was depicted in satirical press publications of the nineteenth century. This work drew on written and visual sources in these publications and had a particular focus on Punch magazine. His current research includes a comprehensive exploration of the symbiotic relationship between the bar, the press and the public. This work has a specific focus on the prevention of state intervention into the regulatory affairs of the bar, while exploring how the press represented the bar to the public through their general exposure of the profession. Craig is also currently researching and writing a conference paper on the Judge Dredd ‘Origins‘ graphic novel, because he just really likes Judge Dredd!
