Dr Stacey Hynd

profile picture
Subject Area:

Stacey is a fascinating historian focussing on colonial and post-colonial Africa. Her lectures are always really interesting and well organised on topics that are impossible to ignore!!

Stacey says: My primary research interests are histories of law, crime and punishment in colonial Africa, with my recent doctoral research being completed on capital punishment in British Africa through archival work in Kenya, Malawi and Tanzania. I also research criminal law in the British Empire and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. I am interested more widely in African gender histories, violence and warfare in Africa, and in imperial and global history. My current research projects focus on histories of child combatants in modern African warfare, and the development of human rights and humanitarian discourses in West Africa, with a particular focus on Ghana.

Fruni is about giving as many people as possible the opportunity to experience the most inspiring teaching at UK universities, as voted for by students.

First we give students the chance to experience the best teaching their university has to offer, regardless of the subject they study.

Then we work with universities to put these brilliant teachers at the heart of their outreach programmes. We aim to create a publicly free national resource of outstanding university teaching.
